Sóller is quite isolated from the rest of the island of Mallorca. Located in a valley facing the sea, for many years it was only accessible by foot from the rest of the island until a railway was built to link it with Palma. A large number of people of French descent live in Sòller as the locals often did business with France to help them survive and overcome their isolation from the rest of Mallorca. This has given Sóller a slight French vibe to it.
