Alcúdia old town

One of the main attractions of Alcúdia is its incredible old town. Located inside the old walls of Alcúdia, it is an idyllic area where you can stroll around the narrow streets and enjoy the unique atmosphere. Inside Alcúdia, you will find stately homes, the ornate entrance and exit portals of the walls themselves, and shops to suit all tastes and budgets. 

Within the old town of Alcúdia, you will also find all kinds of restaurants and bars where you can eat and soak up the atmosphere of the old town. Places where you can try traditional Mallorcan food or simply enjoy a drink in the sunshine.

In addition, the old town of Alcúdia is also the location of the weekly market. Every Tuesday and Sunday, a market of local Majorcan products is held in the streets of Alcúdia, great for those who love to hunt for the perfect souvenir.

Museums in Alcúdia

In Alcúdia there are two museums, they are quite different from each other. One of them is the Pollentia Monographic Museum that explains the history of Alcúdia; Alcúdia was formerly known as Pollentia. 

In the museum, you will learn about the archaeology of Pollentia and can see artefacts dating back from Roman times. The museum is in the centre of Alcúdia, at 31 Calle Sant Jaume. 

The other museum nestles in the Alcúdia mountains, the Sa Bassa Blanca Museum is a museum unique to Mallorca mixing architecture, sculpture, art, and nature; founded by artists Yannick Vu and Ben Jakover to promote culture and environmental sustainability. 

The Alcúdia Beaches

If Alcúdia is known for something, it is for its incredible beaches, there are all kinds of beaches for you to explore, from long and sandy with shallow shores to small rocky coves. 

If you are looking for an ideal golden sandy beach where you can relax and lose track of time, we have the perfect beach for you! Playa de Muro located in Alcúdia has everything you need to make your day at the beach simply perfect. In addition, for those who love water sports, it is one of the best beaches in Mallorca for surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing. 

On the other hand, if you are more adventurous, and are looking for a secluded beach only accessible on foot, we recommend Coll Baix. After a 20-minute walk, you will reach one of the most beautiful rocky coves in Mallorca, ideal for snorkelling and discovering all unusual species of fish on the seabed. The Albufera of Mallorca

In Alcúdia, we also find the only sea lagoon in Mallorca, located in the Albufera near Alcúdia. It is a unique protected natural area on the island, which is open to visitors throughout the year, here you can soak up all the different scenery created as the seasons pass by. 

If you like bird watching, then you are in for a real treat, there are a vast variety of birds that migrate and pass through the Albufera. There are several hides located within the Alcúdia lagoon, so you can observe the wildlife undisturbed in their natural habitat. 

Another option within the Albufera reserve is to simply walk along its trails, soaking up the peaceful atmosphere and the scenery this beautiful area offers.

The Roman ruins of Alcúdia

Alcúdia has a lot of history, a good example of this, apart from the perimeter walls, and the one which is best preserved, are the Roman ruins of Alcúdia.

The Roman site of the ancient city of Pollentia, which was founded in the second century BC and was the capital of Mallorca at that time, lies just outside the walls of Alcúdia; It just goes to show this area is certainly steeped in history. 

The Roman ruins of Alcúdia are open to visitors throughout the year. Although they are in the open air and are best avoided on hot or very wet days; the ruins offer an amazing insight into life in a Roman town.
