S'illot Beach

 

You will find this stony beach located very close to Alcúdia, it gets its name from the small islet just a few meters from the shoreline, it’s so close, in fact, that you don´t even need to swim to it, you can easily wade across.

 

The beach of S'illot, thanks to its rocky formation, is perfect for diving and snorkelling. In the nooks and crannies of these rocks, you will find hidden animals of all different kinds ... a visit to the depths will fascinate you!  A visit beneath the waves will uncover many delights, especially the large numbers of small fish that are typical of the Mediterranean Sea.

 

This beach has two restaurants nearby where you can eat or cool off with a drink. They are the ideal places to try typical Mallorca and Spanish food; they always promote the best the healthy Mediterranean diet has to offer.

 

 Alcúdia beach

 

Surrounded by the Albufera nature reserve of Mallorca with numerous restaurants, shops, and other leisure areas close-by, you will find the beach of Alcúdia. A vast sandy area with all the services and amenities necessary to spend an incredible day on the beach in Mallorca.

 

A blue flag beach, with services such as bathrooms, showers, and facilities for people with reduced mobility; the ideal family beach. S'arenalet d'Aubarca

 

Aubarca is a small area, that is incredibly unique, and located quite close to Alcúdia, it’s certainly well worth a trip. Here you will find an old watchtower, that is well known in Mallorca. There is also a hostel where you can stay the night and explore the areas around the site.

 

But without a doubt, the most stunning part of Aubarca is, its beach. A sandy area that can only be accessed on foot, this means  there are usually very few visitors to the beach.

 

S'arenalet d'Aubarca is a beach of fine sand and turquoise waters, a truly unspoilt beach in Mallorca. Please make sure you have taken everything you need along with you to ensure your day at the beach is simply perfect.

 

Historical Landmarks in Alcúdia

 

Alcúdia, once known as Pollentia, has a variety of interesting places to visit. Due to Alcudia´s location in one of the northernmost points of Mallorca, its history is long and varied. For example, and one point in history, it was the perfect location for the Barbary pirates to try to invade the island.

 

So, there are  plenty of places for you to visit after spending a day, or two, on the beaches of Mallorca. If you looking to discover  the history of Alcúdia, then don´t miss out on the following:

 

The Roman city of Pollentia

 

A short walk from the centre of Alcúdia, you can find these incredible Roman ruins, the Roman city of Pollentia is probably one of the most important historical landmarks in the town.

 

In the ruins of the Roman city of Pollentia, you will find houses, forums, and a beautiful theatre; for those with more macabre tastes, there are also uncovered tombs. Some of the ruins date back to the first century and allow you to get an idea of how local people lived at that time. The excavations, which began in the 16th century, are still going on today.

 

During your visit, make sure you are protected with sunscreen and wear a hat, the route  around the ruins is on foot and combined with the lovely weather of Mallorca it is all too easy to catch too much sun. After walking around, a visit to the nearby museum, explains in more detail, the history of Pollentia and you get to see some of historical artefacts taken from daily life in the Roman city.

 

Medieval wall of Alcúdia

 

Walk through the old town of Alcúdia, with its winding streets you will get to know the many different churches and historical houses of the old town; it is certainly a beautiful walk. In addition, the entire city of Alcúdia is surrounded by an amazing, fortified wall. 

 

The medieval wall of Alcúdia still has, to this day, several  sections that are still visible and open to the public; it is one of the most beautiful and original town walls in Mallorca, almost 1 km long and, in some places, up to 6 meters high.

 

In the 14th century Jaime II ordered  the building of this wall to protect Alcúdia from marauding pirates,  now it stands out for being an utterly unique to Alcúdia. The huge gates that allowed people to enter and exit the town also remain standing to this day and are also well worth visit.
